The trade deadline is still months away, but rumors are already popping up in regard to what the Vegas Golden Knights may do to prepare for a potential playoff run.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman appeared on NHL Network Friday to talk about what may unfold on the Feb. 25 trade deadline. According to Friedman, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if the Knights inquired about St. Louis Blues forward Brayden Schenn, who is very familiar to Knights assistant general manager Kelly McCrimmon.

The thing that’s interesting about him is he played three years for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League. The assistant general manager of the Vegas Golden Knights is Kelly McCrimmon, who is synonymous with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He coached them and he owns them, he runs them. He has a big presence there.

I think as St. Louis looks to decide what they’re going to do with their team and their players as they try to figure out what’s going on in this season, it’s a little bit of an educated guess, but it’s some informed speculation. I think that he’s a guy that Vegas is looking at, and Schenn is a guy who could help a lot of teams. He can play in a lot of spots in your lineup. He’s a tough guy, so I could definitely see him fitting into what Vegas would be willing to do.

Schenn, 27, is coming off an All-Star campaign in which he registered 28 goals and 70 points (both of which career-highs). Through 29 games this season, the former first-round draft selection has posted seven goals and 22 points.

Having spent six seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, Schenn established himself as a hard-nosed (and dare I say Gritty?) forward capable of playing center or wing. The Golden Knights are currently sitting pretty down the middle with William Karlsson, Paul Stastny, Cody Eakin and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare all entrenched as the team’s primary faceoff men, but a player like Schenn would certainly be a welcome addition regardless.
