Jake Leschyshyn Claimed Off Waivers by New York Rangers

Jake Leschyshyn is no longer a member of the Vegas Golden Knights organization as he’s been claimed by the New York Rangers.

Leschyshyn was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2017 draft by the Golden Knights, and made his NHL debut last season. He appeared in 41 games and tallied 6 points (2 goals and 4 assists), and 27 points in 34 AHL games.

He was a bottom-six forward who wasn’t a player of major importance, and other players worked their way ahead of him on the depth chart. It would have been fine to have him pass through and continue to be a “AAAA” player of sorts for the Henderson Silver Knights, but the organization will manage.

With the Rangers he could get an opportunity to contribute in the bottom-six, and he’ll be the latest in a long line of options the team has tried over the last few years. It wouldn’t be surprising if he eventually ended back up on waivers, as the Rangers are a team looking to maximize trade deadline cap space in hopes of adding pieces to make a long run.
