The Vegas Golden Knights made back-to-back selections in the sixth round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, adding forward Alex Weiermair (No. 186 overall) and defenseman Gustav Sjoqvist (No. 187) to the system.
After completing two trades to move up in the second and third rounds, the Golden Knights selected a total of four players in the 2025 draft, including forwards Jakob Ihs-Wozniak (No. 55) and Mateo Nobert (No. 85).
No. 186: Alex Weiermair (F) — Portland Winterhawks (WHL)
The 20-year-old native of Los Angeles scored 21 goals and 46 points in 41 games with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL last year. He joined the team mid-season after playing two seasons for the University of Denver, where he scored three goals and eight points in 33 combined games.
In Portlant, Weiermair scored two goals on five occasions and finished the season with 15 multi-point efforts. He elevated his play in the postseason with 10 goals and 23 points in 18 games.
Weiermair is a relentless competitor who plays a 200-foot game and is known for his transition play and commitment on the backcheck. He’s strong on the puck, physical and has a quick release.
Weiermair thrives in transition. He weaves through the neutral zone with crossovers, starts give-and-gos, drives the net, cuts inside on poorly gapped defenders, and cuts back as good ones close in. A desire to make contact with opponents, big hits and smaller nudges to create space, enables him to consistently find space across the ice.

No. 187: Gustav Sjoqvist (D) — AIK (HockeyAllsvenskan)
Sjoqvist was the lone defenseman taken by Vegas in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
The Stockholm native is sizable at 6-foot-3 and 207 pounds, and he uses that to his advantage with a physical game.
The defensive defenseman doesn’t offer a lot offensively, but he managed to chip in three goals and seven points in 39 games with AIK of HockeyAllsvenskan, the second-tier professional league in Sweden.
He totaled 18 points in 31 games at the junior level in 2024-25, finishing first among defensemen in goals with 11.

Sjöqvist’s strengths are mostly in his defensive capabilities. At 6-foot-3 and over 200 pounds, he uses his size and reach to kill plays early through calculated aggressiveness as a rush defender and pincher.
