Alex Pietrangelo Suspended For Game 5

Alex Pietrangelo has been suspended for one game, and will subsequently miss Game 5 vs. the Edmonton Oilers as a result of a gnarly slash on Leon Draisaitl.

The Department of Player Safety released the following video explaining their decision.

The loss is a big one for the Golden Knights, but Pietrangelo should have known better. It was clearly a case of him taking out his frustration toward the end of a game that was all but over. It is something that had the potential to be even worse for the Edmonton Oilers, and had Draisaitl suffered a serious injury it is possible that Pietrangelo would have received a steeper penalty, even though he doesn’t have a history with the league.

In any case, the Golden Knights will be without one of their top defenders in a pivotal Game 5, and they will need to regroup and get back on track or they could face the potential of having to play Game 6 with their backs against the wall which will be a potential elimination game for one of the two teams involved.
