Cody Glass, Nick Suzuki, others released from Golden Knights training camp

Top prospects Cody Glass and Nick Suzuki have been released from Vegas Golden Knights training camp and will join their respective junior organizations, the team announced Friday.

Prospects Nic Hague and Dylan Coghlan also see their time with the Golden Knights come to an end, as they will re-join their junior teams. Hague was a second-round pick this summer, and Coghlan signed a three-year entry level contract Wednesday.

Glass, the sixth overall pick in this summer’s entry draft, recorded two assists in the preseason opener Sunday against the Vancouver Canucks, but was held to no points in Thursday’s 5-2 loss to San Jose. Suzuki, the 13th overall pick, also had two points (one goal, one assist) against Vancouver but only tallied one shot on goal Tuesday against Colorado.

Glass will re-join his teammates with the Portland Winterhawks, while Suzuki returns to the Owen Sound Attack.

In addition, four players have been released from Golden Knights training camp but will join the Chicago Wolves in their training camp. Bryce Gervais, Stephen MacAulay, Kenney Morrison and Dmitry Osipov will be with Vegas’ AHL affiliate when camp opens Sunday at Triphahn Community Center & Ice Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

While there was a strong following for Glass to make Vegas’ opening night roster, this doesn’t come as a surprise. There’s still a slim chance he’ll see some time this year for a nine-game run before his contract kicks in, but keeping him in juniors after a strong camp isn’t a bad thing. The same goes for Suzuki, who after a 96-point campaign with Owen Sound last year, will benefit greatly with his time in Vegas this summer.
