David Perron to ‘look at other opportunities’ as free agency looms

According to a report from David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Golden Knights forward David Perron is “forced to look at other opportunities” as the NHL’s free agency period approaches.

The 30-year-old winger is coming off the best statistical season of his NHL career, having recorded 16 goals and 66 points (a career high) in 70 regular season games while also serving as a key voice in the Vegas dressing room.

While some may find Perron’s decision to weigh his options unsettling, the Sherbrooke, Quebec native has certainly earned the right to do so as he approaches his 12th NHL season.

After Vegas’ season concluded, it was reported that Perron and the Golden Knights had mutual interest in a contract extension. Perron has made it clear that he’s valued his time in Vegas and wants to be a part of the group again.

There’s no telling what George McPhee and company have planned in the coming weeks, but seeing that the Knights are nearly $31 million under the salary cap, it’s hard to imagine Vegas not having the dollar to afford Perron’s services.
