GAMEDAY THREAD 25/82: San Jose Sharks at Vegas Golden Knights

The Golden Knights and Sharks will square off in Vegas for the first time since Game 5 of their second-round playoff series.

Marc-Andre Fleury is coming off his league-leading fourth shutout of the season after a 29-save effort yesterday against Calgary, and he will man the crease once again tonight for Vegas. He will go up against Martin Jones after Aaron Dell got the nod last night in the Sharks’ 4-0 win against the Canucks.

The Knights have won consecutive games for the first time in over a month and will look to make it three in a row as they finish up the stretch of five straight games against Pacific Division opponents. The Sharks (12-7-4) moved into first place in the division with last night’s win, while Vegas (11-12-1) slid into fourth.

Max Pacioretty has points in four straight games (four goals, one assist) entering tonight’s tilt. William Karlsson scored four goals and five points in four games against the Sharks last season, including this beauty.

Though Erik Karlsson got off to a slow start to the season, he is beginning to look like himself. The Sharks’ splashy offseason acquisition is coming off a three-point performance and has points in four out of his last five games, recording two goals and eight points in that stretch.

Brent Burns, the other half of San Jose’s two-headed monster on the back end, leads the team in points (24) and scored two goals and five points in four games against Vegas last year. Two members of San Jose’s second line, Timo Meier and Logan Couture, are tied for second on the team in scoring with 22 points; Meier has been a pleasant surprise for the Sharks, scoring 13 goals in the first 23 games of the season.

Clearly, the Knights will have their hands full.

Here are the projected lineups for both clubs:
