Golden Knights’ Marc-Andre Fleury named NHL’s First Star of the Week

After one of the toughest stretches of his tenure with the Vegas Golden Knights, goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury got back on track in a big way last week, earning First Star of the Week honors.

In three games, Fleury went 3-0-0, picked up a pair of shutouts in consecutive games and logged a .987 SV% and 0.33 GAA. Fleury’s most recent shutout, a 3-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday, was his league-leading eighth shutout of the season. Granted, that also may have been one of the easiest shutouts of his career — the Canucks only managed 19 shots on goal.

Fleury now has 56 shutouts in his 15-year career.

The 34-year-old’s season hasn’t quite been on par with his ridiculous 2017-18 campaign, but replicating what he did in Vegas’ inaugural season simply isn’t realistic. His .927 SV% and 2.24 GAA last season were both career highs for the veteran netminder, and a regression was somewhat expected.

That’s not to say Fleury hasn’t been good this season, though. Despite some occasional struggles, Fleury still owns a .911 SV% and 2.52 GAA through 56 (!) starts. The former Penguin has been given some extra rest recently, and it seems to be paying dividends as the Knights enter the regular season’s homestretch.
