Golden Knights place Luca Sbisa on IR, recall Tomas Hyka from Chicago Wolves

The Vegas Golden Knights announced Monday that defenseman Luca Sbisa, who is dealing with a lower body ailment, has been placed on the injured reserve list for the second time this season.

As you may recall, Sbisa was previously placed on IR on November 16 (also due to a lower body injury). It’s unknown whether his most recent ailment is related to the injury he suffered in November.

It should be noted, however, that Sbisa was on the ice (in a no-contact sweater) for practice Monday, so it does not appear his injury is too serious.

In 23 games this season, Sbisa has recorded a goal, nine assists and a plus-6 rating.

With Sbisa out of the lineup for the immediate future, the Golden Knights recalled forward Tomas Hyka from the Chicago Wolves. Hyka, 24, has registered six goals and 12 points in 16 games with the Wolves this season. The Czech forward made a strong push for a roster spot during training camp after scoring four goals in the preseason, but would ultimately be sent down to the AHL.

While losing Sbisa is less than ideal for the Golden Knights, this is an exciting opportunity for Hyka to potentially earn a permanent spot on Vegas’ roster.
