Golden Knights put Mark Stone on IR, place Holtz and Reinhardt on waivers

The Vegas Golden Knights placed captain Mark Stone on injured reserve on Thursday.

Stone was injured in the first period of Vegas’ 5-0 loss to Pittsburgh over the weekend and has missed the last two games for the Golden Knights.

The move likely was made to accommodate the Golden Knights’ acquisition of center Nic Dowd from the Washington Capitals.

The true extent of Stone’s injury remains unknown, but the Golden Knights likely will provide further details once Friday’s trade deadline (noon) has passed.

Stone has had an exceptional season for the Golden Knights this year, recording 21 goals and 60 points in just 43 games. This is the second time the captain has missed extended time this season. The Golden Knights have seen firsthand that Stone’s absence significantly affects the team in almost every way, so the hope is that he won’t be out long-term.

The Golden Knights also placed forwards Alexander Holtz and Cole Reinhardt on waivers on Thursday, according to SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Both players will report to the Henderson Silver Knights if they clear.

Holtz three goals and nine points in 28 games with Vegas this year, while Reinhardt has three goals and seven points in 44 games.
