Although the Golden Knights did not release their full list of who they have extended qualifying offers too, a couple of names have began to surface.
Unsurprisingly, the Knights have extended a qualifying offer to William Karlsson, as per David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Defensemen Colin Miller and Shea Theodore are believed to have also received offers, as well as minor league goalie Oscar Dansk.
Now, you can add one more name to the list of players the Knights have extended a qualifying offer too, as Schoen reported on Tuesday afternoon that William Carrier has also received a QO.
With Carrier checked off the list, this leaves Tomas Nosek, Teemu Pulkkinen and Philip Holm as the only restricted free agents who the Knights have yet to make a decision on.
The Golden Knights had until 5 p.m. ET on Monday to make a decision on each of their restricted free agents, so they have made their decision on every RFA, but the team decided to keep their list private.
By extending an offer sheet, the Knights are granted the right of first refusal or draft pick compensation should one of their RFAs sign an offer sheet with another team, per the NHL. By extending a qualifying offer the Knights also retain negotiating rights to potentially try to work out a long-term deal, since QOs are only one-year deals.
From a financial standpoint, qualifying offers are calculated from the players base salary, and at minimum must meet the seasons minimum salary requirements, as per the NHL CBA. When it comes to Carrier, his qualifying offer would carry a base salary of $750,000, according to Cap Friendly. However, as per Schoen, Carrier and his agent expect to work out a deal with the Knights, so he will likely sign a deal worth more than $750,000.
Carrier finished with three points (one goal, two assists) in 37 games last season, but was a useful fourth line player who fit in well when healthy. The 6-foot-2, 212 pound forward plays a physical game and could potentially carve out a larger role with the Knights next season.
