The Vegas Golden Knights are bringing a familiar face back to Sin City.
Defenseman Dylan Coghlan will return for a second stint with the Golden Knights after inking a one-year contract with a $775,000 cap hit on day one of free agency.
Coghlan was originally signed by the Golden Knights as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and played 88 games with the Golden Knights in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns.
Coghlan was traded to Carolina as part of the Max Pacioretty salary-dump deal back in 2022.
He played 18 games spanning two seasons with the Hurricanes and laced up the skates in six games with Winnipeg this past year.
The Duncan, B.C. native played an important depth role for Vegas in his two seasons with the club, including seeing time as a winger when Pete DeBoer needed roster flexibility due to injuries and cap management issues.
Coghlan, now 28, has six goals and 22 points in 122 career games with Vegas, Carolina and Winnipeg. All six goals as well as 19 of his 22 points came in his time with the Golden Knights, including a hat trick against Minnesota in 2021.
Coghlan will provide depth on the blue line for the Golden Knights, who will be without Alex Pietrangelo and Nicolas Hague next season.
Vegas announced Monday that Pietrangelo is stepping away from hockey due to health concerns, which could be career-ending. Vegas also shipped Hague to Nashville earlier this week in exchange for defenseman Jeremy Lauzon and center Colton Sissons.
The Golden Knights made another minor signing on day one of free agency with the addition of free-agent forward Jaycob Megna on a two-year contract with an AAV of $800,000. Megna played the 2019-20 season for the Chicago Wolves — Vegas’ AHL affiliate at the time — scoring three goals and 10 points in 61 games.
But the most notable move of the 2025 offseason was Vegas’ blockbuster trade to land forward Mitch Marner from Toronto, which was made official Tuesday morning.

Vegas also re-signed forwards Reilly Smith and Brandon Saad to one-year, $2 million deals last week.
