The Vegas Golden Knights signed defenseman Brayden McNabb to a three-year, $10.95 million contract extension, the team announced Friday. The deal carries a cap hit of $3.65 million and will keep McNabb locked up through the 2027-28 campaign.
The contract includes a full no-trade clause in the first year as well as modified no-trade clauses in years two and three; specifically, year two consists of a 10-team no-trade list, which then becomes a five-team no-trade list in year three, according to Puck Pedia.
McNabb is in the final year of a three-year contract with an AAV of $2.85 million and was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. This is the third multi-year deal McNabb has signed with Vegas after inking a four-year, $10 million contract almost exactly seven years ago (Nov. 29, 2017). This is the highest AAV of McNabb’s career; he will be 37 in the final year of the contract.
McNabb is the franchise leader in games played (518), blocks (1,104) and hits (1,256). He is one of three Original Misfits still on the Vegas roster and was the first player to appear in a Golden Knights sweater on the night of the expansion draft after being selected from the Los Angeles Kings.
Originally a third-round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres (No. 66 overall) in 2009, McNabb has 29 goals and 161 points in 756 career games with Vegas, Los Angeles and Buffalo; his Golden Knights stat line features 22 goals and 111 points in 518 games.
McNabb tallied four assists in 21 games in Vegas’ Stanley Cup run in 2023, finishing third on the team with 54 blocks; he has five goals and 22 points in 88 postseason contests with Vegas.
This season, McNabb has one goal and two points and leads the team with a plus-11 rating through 16 games. He is in his eighth season with the Golden Knights.
The Golden Knights continue to solidify their blue line after announcing a seven-year extension for Shea Theodore last month. Vegas now has Alex Pietrangelo signed through 2026-27, McNabb and Zach Whitecloud through 2027-28 and Theodore and Noah Hanifin through 2031-32.
