Golden Knights sign Ryan Reaves to 2-year extension
Vegas inks the formidable forward to an extension carrying a $1.75 million AAV.
The Vegas Golden Knights have signed forward Ryan Reaves to a two-year, $3.5 million contract extension carrying a $1.75 million average annual value.
The 33-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
Reaves broke the news in a video message posted on the club’s Twitter account.

Reaves scored eight goals and 15 points in 71 regular-season games before the season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the corona virus.
However, that didn’t stop the Winnipeg native from making a joke about how he finished just shy of this year’s scoring title; in fact, he missed the mark by 95 points, trailing Leon Draisaitl’s league-leading 110-point campaign. But, as Reaves explained in the message, he has yet to do two things in his career: win a Stanley Cup and win a scoring title.
“Now, I can win a Stanley Cup this year; I can do it,” he said in the video. “I can’t win the scoring title. Can’t do it. Just missed it by a couple points. And I also can’t do it next year if I don’t have a contract. So I am happy to announce that I just signed a two-year extension with your Vegas Golden Knights.”
Reaves was originally acquired from Pittsburgh at the 2018 trade deadline and was subsequently signed to a two-year deal with an AAV of $2.775 million, so this contract is a step down from that. However, it’s unclear how the pandemic will affect next year’s salary cap situation, so the savings could be crucial for the Knights moving forward.
The Knights currently have 17 players locked up through next season,
Reaves is coming off a career season in which he recorded nine goals and 20 points in 74 games in 2018-19. He has led the league in hits in each of the past two years, recording 316 in this shortened season. His physical style and possession play have been assets to the Knights’ fourth line.
Reaves has 48 goals and 96 points in 649 career regular-season games with the Blues, Penguins and Golden Knights.
