Team Canada released its official roster for the 2026 Olympic Games Wednesday morning, and three members of the Golden Knights will represent their country: Mark Stone, Shea Theodore and Mitch Marner.
All three players played in last year’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. Canada defeated Team USA in overtime on Connor McDavid’s game-winning goal, which was assisted by Marner.
Marner became the fastest player in Golden Knights franchise history to reach 30 assists, which he did in 37 games. He has 40 points in his first 37 games with the Golden Knights after the sign-and-trade with Toronto in the offseason. He leads the Golden Knights with 31 assists.
Stone has been fantastic so far this season, recording nine goals and 30 points despite missing 16 games. He recorded at least a point in his first 14 games of the year, potting six goals and adding 18 helpers in that stretch.
Theodore has gotten off to a quiet start this season after setting career highs last year with 50 assists and 57 points in 67 games. He has four goals and 20 points in 31 games this year but has missed the last six games and remains out of the lineup due to injury.
Team Canada will be coached by Tampa Bay’s Jon Cooper, Vegas’ Bruce Cassidy and former Golden Knights bench boss Pete DeBoer, who most recently coached the Dallas Stars before being let go at the end of last season.
Though the defense corps remains the same from 4 Nations, there are changes to the forward group as well as in net.
Among the additions are two familiar names in goaltender Logan Thompson (Washington) and forward Nick Suzuki (Montreal). Other new players include forwards Tom Wilson (Washington), Macklin Celebrini (San Jose) and Bo Horvat (New York Islanders) as well as goaltender Darcy Kuemper (Los Angeles).
Notable subtractions from the 4 Nations roster include forwards Sam Bennett (Florida), Travis Konecny (Philadelphia) and Seth Jarvis (Carolina), as well as goaltenders Adin Hill (Vegas) and Sam Montembeault (Montreal).
Hill never had a chance to showcase his play this season due to injury. He went 1-0-2 with a 2.73 goals-against average and .888 save percentage in five starts before suffering an injury that has kept him out of the Vegas lineup since Oct. 20. Hill is “getting closer,” according to Cassidy, but still remains week-to-week.
Other players named to the roster include forwards Anthony Cirelli (Tampa Bay), Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh), Brandon Hagel (Tampa Bay), Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado), Brad Marchand (Florida), McDavid (Edmonton), Brayden Point (Tampa Bay) and Sam Reinhart (Florida).
Defensemen Drew Doughty (Los Angeles), Thomas Harley (Dallas), Cale Makar (Colorado), Josh Morrissey (Winnipeg), Colton Parayko (St. Louis), Travis Sanheim (Philadelphia) and Devon Toews (Colorado) as well as goaltender Jordan Binnington (St. Louis) also will represent Canada as the NHL players return to the Olympics for the first time since 2014.
Team USA is expected to release its roster on Friday. Jack Eichel will make his Olympic debut, as he was one of six players named in June.
Golden Knights forward Jonas Rondbjerg was one of the first six players named to the Danish team.
Notably, however, Team Sweden will be without William Karlsson.
Prior to the Christmas break, Cassidy said he expected Karlsson to be back before the Olympics. However, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported Tuesday that Karlsson will not, in fact, be available to compete.
Karlsson is still considered week-to-week but has been out of commission since suffering an injury Nov. 8 against the Ducks. He has four goals and seven points in 14 games this season.
