Bring out the champagne. The Vegas Golden Knights are winners.
Vegas capped off its visit to El Segundo, California in dominant fashion with a 4-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in the second rookie scrimmage in less than 24 hours.
Again, this won’t count toward any standings or official records, but that wipes away the fun from this. One day after allowing five goals in the third period and losing 6-2, the young Golden Knights rebounded nicely with a strong performance.
Here’s what we learned.
The legend of Cody Glass is real
It’s been an unusually quiet summer for the Golden Knights’ first ever draft pick, but Glass showed glimpses of why he’ll be an exciting call-up for Vegas in a few years.
Glass recorded an assist on the game’s first goal — the second in two days from Tomas Hyka — but then the center showed off his scoring ability late in the first ability off a great feed from Dylan Coghlan.

Glass was on the ice for the first three Vegas goals and recorded three points. That’s pretty good.
But games like this are why the Golden Knights are so high on Glass, and why guys like our own Ryan Quigley believe Glass could be the prospect that makes the opening day roster. We’ll get a better sense for how he fares against better NHL competition, but Glass is determined to not be broken.

Dylan Ferguson was dominant
The prospect goalie Vegas acquired from the Dallas Stars in the trade for Marc Methot has gone from the player without a nameplate on his jersey, to steadily becoming one of the more impressive prospects the Golden Knights have in camp.
The 18-year-old netminder got the start and, by all accounts (because this game was blacked out again), he played a superb game.

There’s something about Ferguson that’s been fun to watch this summer. He seems to possess great instincts in net and has quick pad work. What he did today is a reflection to how he’s done this summer, whether it’s been in team scrimmages or practices. He might not be the best goalie prospect out of the bunch, but he’s been the most consistent.
This will not be the last time you read about Ferguson. He’s shown he’s got some tools to be a really good goaltender when he finally gets to the league. Him and Logan Thompson both played well this week, which is a good sign for evaluating the young goalies.

Training camp is going to be fun
Rookies and veterans report to City National Arena on Thursday for the first time. This blend of prospects and the guys Vegas selected in the expansion draft is going to make for some entertaining hockey.
We’ll likely spend all week saying how the Golden Knights’ young guys are better than the vets and should be on the opening night roster, and how Marc-Andre Fleury looks like he’s in, heaven forbid, Vezina Trophy form.
But hockey is coming soon, and we should all be stoked. It all starts Thursday and then the team will step on real NHL ice Sunday in Vancouver.
