Exhibition game between Silver Knights and Barracuda suspended due to COVID protocols

Saturday’s preseason American Hockey League game between the Henderson Silver Knights and San Jose Barracuda was suspended due to COVID-19 protocols.

It was a 1-0 game for Henderson after two periods. The teams were set to come out for the third, only to head back to their respective locker rooms. No further update has been provided at this time.

The Silver Knights confirmed that the cancellation of the game was not due to a positive test from Henderson players or staff.

This suspension comes on the heels of the Vegas Golden Knights having to postpone their past three games due to COVID tracing within the organization. Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo has been placed in protocol along with three Vegas coaches.

Silver Knights head coach Manny Viveiros, and assistants Joel Ward and Jamie Heward, were behind the Vegas bench during Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Blues. Due to NHL protocol, the AHL coaches are not permitted to be near their players until cleared.

Former Vegas defenseman Deryk Engelland served as the acting coach during Henderson’s 7-3 victory against San Jose on Friday, and was the coach again Saturday with Viveiros and staff overseeing the game in a suite at Orleans Arena.
