Logan Thompson Named NHL’s Rookie of Month for November
Logan Thompson has been a real bright spot this season for the Vegas Golden Knights as the team’s starting goaltender, and the NHL has just named him Rookie of the Month for November.
Congratulations to our very own @Thommy_31 on being named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for November!!! 🐺👏 pic.twitter.com/F0797k6sEy— Vegas Golden Knights (@GoldenKnights) December 1, 2022
Thompson stood between the pipes for 10 games in November and posted a record of 8-2-0 with a .909 save percentage and a 2.88 goals-against average.
It was a bit of a down month after going 4-2-0 with a .943 save percentage and 1.69 goals against average in October, but there were a couple of games where Thompson was let down by the team in front of him.
One particular game of note includes a 5-4 win vs. the Vancouver Canucks which saw the Golden Knights come from behind. That said, overall he’s been strong and he’s been worth 7.4 goals above replacement which is currently 12th best in the league per Evolving-Hockey.
He been very strong for the team at a time in which Adin Hill has been struggling a bit, and Thompson picking up 6 of his 8 victories in November on the road has helped make Vegas one of the best road teams this season. He ended November on a high note with a 3-2 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, and he tallied 26 saves in regulation and overtime, and stopped 6 of 7 attempts in the shootout.
There were a lot of questions on how the goaltending would hold up this year without Robin Lehner, and Thompson has embraced the opportunity, ran with it, and performed admirably. He will look to keep things up as he contends for a Calder Trophy, and potentially the No. 1 starting job for the foreseeable future beyond this season.
