Malcolm Subban ‘probably out weeks,’ per report

The Vegas Golden Knights already lost goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to a concussion in last week’s tilt against the Detroit Red Wings.

Now they’ve lost his backup.

Against the St. Louis Blues Saturday night, Malcolm Subban, filling in as the Golden Knights’ starter in Fleury’s absence, suffered an apparent lower-body injury while extending his right leg to try and make a pad save.

According to Sportnet’s John Shannon, the injury could keep Subban out of action for weeks.

With both Fleury and Subban injured, the Golden Knights now turn to Oscar Dansk to take the reins in net for the foreseeable future. In relief of Subban, Dansk allowed a goal on the first shot he faced — a one-time blast from Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, before shutting the door the rest of the way.

Dansk, 23, was originally selected No. 31 overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound goaltender spent last season playing in the SHL, finishing the season with a 3.00 goals against average and a .903 save percentage across 24 contests.

It is likely that Maxime Lagace will be Dansk’s backup for the time being, given his position on the organizational depth chart. What the Knights’ AHL affiliate will now do for goaltending is another matter altogether.
