Mark Stone to Make Preseason Debut Tonight vs. San Jose Sharks

Mark Stone appeared in his 37th game of the season on April 29, 2022 for the Vegas Golden Knights and scored a goal in a win over the St. Louis Blues. Tonight marks his first game back since undergoing surgery lumbar discectomy surgery.

Mark Stone Underwent Successful Lumbar Discectomy Surgery

Making his preseason debut is an important first step as Stone attempts to work his way back into the lineup, and return to being an elite contributor who can help the Golden Knights toward their goal of winning a Stanley Cup. Lofty goal for sure, but for now baby steps.

Stone hit the ground running when he was traded to Vegas with 11 points in 18 games, and in his first full season tallied 63 points in 65 games. During the 2020-21 season limited to 56 games as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Stone averaged over a point per game with 21 goals and 61 points in 55 games. Stone was pretty impactful when he was healthy last season, and he ended the season with a line of 9-21-30 in 37 games.

But he was in and out of the lineup with nagging injuries, and hopeful the offseason surgery allows him to put many of his woes behind him. Stone is a really fun and impactful player to watch, and the Golden Knights have missed him dearly.

The team likely will take things slowly with Stone, and it will be intriguing to see how many minutes he gets. After tonight’s game the team will play again on Tuesday, October 4 vs. the Arizona Coyotes, Thursday, October 6 vs. the Los Angeles Kings, and they end the preseason on Saturday, October 8 once again squaring off with the Coyotes.

It is great that Stone is back, and hopefully this is the start of great things to come for him this season.
