NHL 20 Golden Knights franchise series coming to Knights On Ice on Monday

The Stanley Cup Playoffs would have started Wednesday, and the Vegas Golden Knights would have likely had two home games this week. Alas, we’re not getting that, and it’s still sad.

But with the uncertainty that COVID-19 has provided us, it’s up to us to fill the hockey void in any way they can. AT&T SportsNet has broadcast memorable Vegas Golden Knights games, while Fox Sports Radio is airing classic radio calls.

While we at Knights On Ice are certainly on brand when it comes to reminiscing on fun times, there’s only so much we can do on that. The next best thing to do is create a virtual reality in which we create the Golden Knights’ destiny from within.

That’s what we’re going to do. Starting Monday, Knights On Ice will document an NHL 20 franchise mode series with the Golden Knights. The plan was to start it this past Wednesday, but technical difficulties and rousing games of UNO with family members have pushed this start to a tad later.

I’ve posted polls on Twitter and Instagram in terms of how we start this. There were three different options — using the current roster, a fantasy draft, or trading everyone and build the Golden Knights solely through the draft. An overwhelming number of you believe this series should start with the current roster, and that’s what we’re going to do.

The plan is to go through as many season as we can before turning the Golden Knights into a dynasty (no, we’re not going to play every game, that’s near maddening). When we’ve completed our duty, we will go to a different format (fantasy draft, build through draft, etc.).

These happenings will be livestreamed on Twitch, and pending on how much interaction we get, this team will likely be constructed by all of you. Times and plans to stream will be announced when ready, and we’ll document everything that happens in story form, as well.

Who should be traded? Who gets the call-up? What should we do with the goaltending situation? All of this could be decided by you.

I know for some of you, this might not be ideal for you to watch someone play a video game and construct a rather weird ‘what if?’ situation, but the hope is that this turns out to be fun and that you all enjoy it.

Let me know what you want to see from these streams, also, and how you think the Golden Knights should be built. Looking forward to your feedback.
