Penguins attempt to troll Golden Knights on Twitter, fail miserably

The Vegas Golden Knights played a pretty big game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Steel City Tuesday night. For the first time in his career, former Pens goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury returned to PPG Paints Arena to face off against his former team. A win in the arena he used to call his own would have been huge for the 33-year-old netminder.

Unfortunately, the Penguins ended up beating Vegas by a score of 5-4 in what turned out to be a much better game than many expected after two periods.

After the game, though, the Penguins took to Twitter to address an issue that’s evidently been bothering them for quite some time.

Back in August, the Golden Knights posted a tweet that apparently ruffled some feathers in Pittsburgh:

Vadim Shipachyov, who used to wear No. 87 during his brief stint in Vegas, is obviously no longer in the NHL after a bizarre soap opera that drew widespread headlines at the beginning of the season. Prior to that, though, he was expected to be the Golden Knights’ top-line center going into their inaugural season.

Clearly Vegas’ silly tweet pushed the Penguins off the edge, because they finally retorted to it (over five months after its initial posting, mind you) immediately after their win over the Golden Knights.

So let’s get this straight. The Penguins are back-to-back Stanley Cup champions and they’re choosing to spend their time one-upping an expansion team (!) that sits 10 spots ahead of them in the league standings? Got it.

And, again, just as a reminder, the tweet the Golden Knights sent out was originally published in August.

Very interesting behavior by the Penguins. Better luck next time, guys.
