Rewind and Fast Forward Vol. 2: A Look Back and Preview of What’s Next for Vegas Golden Knights

Welcome back to Rewind and Fast Forward, a quick notes column which catches you up on what happened with the Vegas Golden Knights the week prior, and previews what is coming up ahead.
Before we get into the results of games, there was some personnel news for Vegas over the last week.
For starters, Brayden Pachal was assigned to the AHL, and Jake Leschyshyn was placed on waivers and ultimately claimed by the New York Rangers./

The Golden Knights were the Pacific Division’s top team as of January 11, and as a result Bruce Cassidy earned the the honor of coaching at the upcoming All-Star Game in Miami./

In terms of game results, over the last week the Vegas Golden Knights had two games, plus one on Monday that was played before I had a chance to post this for a total of three games. During that stretch the Golden Knights went 1-2-0, dropping the last two in a row.
Vegas squared off January 13 vs. the Florida Panthers, and they won by a score of 4-2./

Despite the victory, the team was dealt a bit of bad news as Mark Stone left that game, and it was revealed later on that he was week-to-week with an upper-body injury./

No real specifics were given on what was ailing the captain, and we were told that he’d simply be week-to-week and see how he progressed in due time. Stone had back surgery in the offseason to address some things that have been ailing him in recent years, and the hope is that his latest injury isn’t related to that.
Vegas next played on January 14th against the Edmonton Oilers, and they got off a rough start surrendering two goals against in the first 1:42 of play, and ultimately fell by a score of 4-3./

William Carrier was the latest Golden Knight to catch the injury bug, and he left the game and missed Monday’s game vs. the Dallas Stars.
That game happened to be former bench boss Pete DeBoer’s first game back in Vegas after being fired in the offseason./

It was a pleasant return for DeBoer, as his Dallas Stars squad blanked the Golden Knights 4-0./

As for games the rest of this week, the Golden Knights are next in action on Thursday at home vs. the Detroit Red Wings, after that they will take on the Capitals on Saturday, and they will start a road trip vs. the Coyotes on Sunday before venturing East for a trio of games.
As of today the Golden Knights have a record of 28-15-2 with 58 points in 45 games, and sit atop the Pacific Division, 3rd in the Western Conference, and are ranked 7th in the entire NHL./
