Stars hire former Golden Knights head coach Peter DeBoer
DeBoer in Big D.
It didn’t take very long for Peter DeBoer to find a new head coaching gig.
Just over a month after being fired by the Vegas Golden Knights, DeBoer is headed to the Central Division to take over as bench boss of the Dallas Stars. Former Stars head honcho Rick Bowness stepped down from his role shortly after Dallas was eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of the Calgary Flames.
The Stars officially announced the hiring of DeBoer Tuesday afternoon.
Welcome to #TexasHockey, coach!

Pete DeBoer has officially been named the 25th head coach in franchise history.
DeBoer’s stay in Vegas was short, but largely successful. He guided the Golden Knights to the semifinals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs two years in a row and finished with a record of 98-50-12 in 160 games behind the Vegas bench. Of course, the Golden Knights also missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history with DeBoer at the helm, which ultimately spelled the end for him in Sin City.
Moving on from DeBoer turned out to be a pretty solid move for the Golden Knights, though. Bruce Cassidy is now serving as the third head coach in Golden Knights history, and given his immense track record of success with the Boston Bruins the last six years, it’s hard not to be excited about what the future holds for this star-studded Vegas squad.
Feels safe to say next season’s games between the Golden Knights and Stars will have a little extra intrigue with DeBoer now in Big D.
