Golden Knights 5, Predators 2: Special Teams was special

Max Pacioretty made his return to the lineup in victory.

The Vegas Golden Knights wrapped up a short road trip with a 5-2 win against the Nashville Predators on Wednesday.

Max Pacioretty returned to the lineup after missing 17 games, his first action since Oct. 14.

The Golden Knights played an excellent defensive first period as they only allowed one scoring chance in the period.

Each team got a powerplay opportunity in the period, but neither were successful.

Vegas were limited in opportunities throughout but were able to break through late in the period with a goal from Chandler Stephenson after he was fed with a slick drop pass from Mark Stone.

Early in the second period, the Golden Knights extended the lead to two from Jonas Rondbjerg’s solo effort in the neutral zone. Rondbjerg stole the puck just outside of the blue line and a perfectly placed puck went bar-down passed Juuse Saros.

Vegas added to the lead once again with Adam Brooks first goal as a Golden Knight. Brooks poked a loose puck that Saros lost through traffic in the crease into the net.

Nashville appeared to get on the board after Filip Forsberg flung it towards the net and cut the lead, but the goal came off after a well-used challenge for goalie interference from Pete DeBoer.

Early in the third, the Forsberg actually got on the board on a breakaway with a slick move to the backhand to beat Lehner.

The Golden Knights were undisciplined as they continued to give the Predators power play opportunities throughout the third.

On the Predators fifth man-advantage of the game, the Golden Knights scored while shorthanded. Stephenson fed Alex Pietrangelo and he ripped one passed Saros to make the Vegas lead 4-1.

Vegas gave another power play opportunity to Nashville, and they finally cashed in as Forsberg scored again only six seconds into the man-advantage.

The Predators pulled Saros for the extra attacker with around 2:30 remaining and Stone scored his first of the season with the net empty.

The Golden Knights will return home to take on the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
