Golden Knights playing outdoor game against Avalanche at Lake Tahoe, per report

Good news: The Vegas Golden Knights are about to get their first outdoor game this season.

Also good news: It’ll be at Lake Tahoe, which sounds amazing.

Bad news: None of us might not be able to go. Happy New Year?

The Golden Knights’ Feb. 20 matchup against the Colorado Avalanche, set as Vegas’ lone broadcast on NBC this season and lone national TV home broadcast, will take place at Edgewood Tahoe Resort at Stateline in Northern Nevada, according to Sportsnet.

The April 18 matchup between the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins is the second matchup being considered at the site. The rink will be held near the final three holes of the popular golf course that has hosted many a celebrity and athlete.

According to the report, the NHL has looked to try something different during this shortened 56-game season with the likelihood that no fans will be able to attend most games. Elliotte Friedman mentions the NHL looked at potential options like Lake Louise, Alberta — nixed due to signage limitations — and Park City, Utah (which I’d be curious to see how they’d get a rink to one of the more tech-driven cities in America).

Instead, the NHL is settling on Northern Nevada, and to have the Golden Knights featured in such a capacity is exciting. It’s not a Stadium Series matchup at Allegiant Stadium — which is still in the cards for Vegas once all of this returns to normal — but imagine a picturesque wilderness backdrop of Lake Tahoe while the Golden Knights and Avalanche combine for 12 goals.

This is something I’d be here for.
