Golden Knights sign Dylan Coghlan to 2-year contract

With a week before training camp, the Vegas Golden Knights took care one of their remaining items on the to-do list by signing defenseman Dylan Coghlan to a two-year deal.

The deal carries an average annual value of $762,500.

Coghlan was one of two restricted free agents left to be signed by the Golden Knights. Forward Nolan Patrick, the former No. 2 overall pick who the Golden Knights acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators in the offseason, is the other.

The 23-year-old Coghlan played 29 games in his first pro season in 2021 after being a mainstay with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League. Carried with a powerful right shot, Coghlan was the seventh defenseman on Vegas, registering six points (3G, 3A).

Coghlan became the third defenseman in NHL history to score his first three career goals via a hat trick, doing so against the Minnesota Wild on March 10.

Coghlan will enter camp likely as the No. 7 defenseman with Nicolas Hague and Zach Whitecloud ahead of him on the depth chart.
