The Vegas Golden Knights announced Saturday that the club has signed forward Jakub Brabenec to a three-year, entry-level contract worth $2.54 million.
The contract locks up Brabenec through the 2024-25 season and carries a cap hit of $846,667.
Brabenec was selected in the fourth round (No. 102 overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft; Vegas traded picks No. 114 and 155 in order to move up 12 spots to draft him.
He has been very productive in two seasons with the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL.
Brabenec recorded 17 goals and 64 points in 58 games last year and was named the QMJHL Rookie of the Year after leading all first-year skaters in assists (47) and points (64).
He went on to record five goals and 19 points in 14 playoff games; four of the five goals came on the power play.
He is off to a fantastic start this season with eight goals and a team-leading 25 points in 27 games.
The native of Brno, Czech Republic is expected to represent his country at the 2023 World Junior Championships.
The 6-foot-4, 170-pound center is a smooth skater with a powerful first stride. He’s patient and responsible with the puck, has a powerful shot and is a creative playmaker with strong vision.
