Golden Knights sign Mark Stone to 8-year contract extension

The Vegas Golden Knights have signed Mark Stone to an eight-year contract extension worth an AAV of $9.5 million, the team announced Friday, keeping the skilled forward in Vegas through the 2026-27 season.

Stone was acquired in a deadline-day deal with the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 25, where the Golden Knights traded forward Oscar Lindberg, prospect defenseman Erik Brannstrom and a 2020 second-round pick. Stone agreed in principle to the extension once the deal was finalized, but could not sign it until March 1 due to a clause in the collective bargaining agreement.

Sportsnet’s John Shannon reported late Thursday that the formal announcement was on the way.

The Golden Knights have won five consecutive games, all since acquiring Stone. The 26-year-old forward has two assists in five games while playing on a line with Paul Stastny and Max Pacioretty. Vegas has outscored opponents 18-7 during this stretch and the 67-26-61 line has yet to allow a goal at 5-on-5.

With the Golden Knights playing five games in a span of nine days, there was no rush to get the deal done on both sides.

Stone was a sixth-round selection by the Senators in the 2010 NHL Draft. He has scored at least 60 points in five of his past six seasons and is one point from a career-high in the NHL.  He has 28 goals and 36 assists this season, with two assists with Vegas in five games.
