Welcome to Knights On Ice

In the most Jim Nantz way possible: Hello, friends.

Welcome to our new hockey wonderland, Knights On Ice, your home for Vegas Golden Knights coverage here at SB Nation. We’re excited to have you on board. Whether you’re a Las Vegas native loving the idea of having our first professional sports team in Sin City, or are one of the many on Twitter who continue to laugh at the team’s name (trust me, I’ve seen you), you are all lovely people and I welcome you with open arms.

A little about myself: I’m a born-and-raised Las Vegan of 25 years and have written sports dating back to my sophomore year in high school when I wrote columns about Derrick Rose, the Super Bowl and the school’s bowling team. I was an editor for UNLV’s student newspaper, The Rebel Yell (now known as the Scarlet & Grey Free Press, but it’s still the Rebel Yell to me, damn it), covering UNLV football, basketball, volleyball, golf and everything else in between. I’ve made stops at Bleacher Report and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, before making the trek full time to SB Nation.

Also, shout out to my buddies at Mavs Moneyball. You’ll see my byline over there from time to time, as well.

This is a very exciting time. We’re ushering in a new era of NHL coverage in Las Vegas at SB Nation. For natives of a city who have waited a long time for a professional sports team, the puck will soon drop in T-Mobile Arena for the first time, ending this long, suffering drought. And for us at Knights On Ice, it’s our chance to provide you, the reader, content that is unique and enjoyable. This will be a site dedicated to news, storytelling and a damn good time, because that’s what sports are about. Our No. 1 goal will be to give you a reason to keep coming back. I’d promise free milk and cookies to keep you around, but I can’t do that, so solid content will do.

We’re going to hit the ground running in these next couple of weeks. The expansion draft and NHL Draft are right around the corner, as the Golden Knights will soon have this thing they call a roster. You’ll also get to meet our staff over the course of the summer, finding out who we are, where we come from and why we’re writing about hockey when the temperatures are just hitting 100 degrees.

We’re glad you’re here and we can’t wait to see how this journey unfolds. Welcome to Knights On Ice.
