William Karlsson named NHL’s second star of the week following first career hat trick

For the fourth time this season, a Vegas Golden Knights player has been named one of the NHL’s stars of the week.

Forward William Karlsson, who scored four goals and five points in the Golden Knights’ last three contests, has been named the second star of the week. Wild Bill is coming off the first three-goal game of his career against the Toronto Maple Leafs (also the first hat trick Golden Knights history) and has officially surpassed James Neal for the team lead in goals with 20.

Karlsson has already shattered his previous career highs in goals (9) and points (25) and currently sits just six helpers away from tying his previous career high in assists (19) only 37 games into the season.

The 24-year-old Swede has emerged as one of the league’s top finishers, as just five players — Nikita Kucherov, Alex Ovechkin, Anders Lee, John Tavares and Brock Boeser — have scored more goals than the former Columbus Blue Jacket.

As good as Karlsson’s been, though, he fell just short of being named the first star of the week. That honor went to Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who’s won each of his last three games, stopping 99 of 104 shots in the process.
