AT&T to start discussions with ROOT Sports TV distributors soon

AT&T Sports Networks plans to hold discussions soon with TV providers that don’t carry ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain, the network that will air Vegas Golden Knights games this season, sources confirm to Knights On Ice.

Conversations are expected to start within the next month or two, according to one source close to the situation, paving the way for Las Vegas’ primary cable provider Cox to air Golden Knights games.

ROOT Sports is only available to DirectTV providers.

An official spokesperson from AT&T confirmed to KOI on Monday that AT&T “will make the network available to all TV distributors in the team’s authorized territory.” That territory is defined in Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and select counties in California.

In a statement to Knights On Ice on June 16, a Cox spokesperson said the provider “reviews new additions to our channel lineup on an ongoing basis. There have not been any changes to that message” since the discussion of a Cox and ROOT Sports merger began in May.

It might not be much, but at least there seems to finally be a start in these talks that could benefit most of the Las Vegas market. The TV deal was a confusing one when first announced, knowing something would need to be done for cable viewers. It appears talks are on the way.
