The Vegas Golden Knights picked up another pair of points, and increased their cushion in the 2nd Wild Card spot ahead of the St. Louis Blues with a 2-1 overtime win. The Golden Knights now sit with a record of 39-25-7 with 85 points in 71 games, with the Blues trailing by 5 points having played in an extra game than Vegas.

Pavel Dorofeyev opened the scoring with his 11th goal of the season, and his goal gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead which would stand up for the remainder of period one, all of period two, and most of period three.

The Blues almost scored early in the final frame, but Logan Thompson made a tremendous save on Kevin Hayes to keep the lead intact.

Brandon Saad eventually did score with 5:07 remaining to tie things up at 1-1, and the two sides headed to overtime in search of an extra point. Early on in overtime Pavel Buchnevich was awarded a penalty shot, and Logan Thompson stood tall to make a key stop which kept the game going. He finished the evening with 31 saves, and had an amazing performance for the Golden Knights.

Shortly after Thompson’s key stop in overtime, the Golden Knights got the puck into the Blues zone, and Jonathan Marchessault picked up a puck freed by William Karlsson along the boards, and put it off the post an in to give the team another much needed win.

The Golden Knights will enjoy the win tonight, but they have a quick turnaround as they are headed to Nashville to take on the Predators on Tuesday, and they will attempt to snap their 17-game point streak.
