For the second game in a row, the Vegas Golden Knights rallied and won a game by a score of 5-4 in overtime… despite surrendering a 6-on-5 goal in the final minute of play. Mark Stone was the hero tonight for Vegas as he scored the game winner 1:11 into overtime to cap off a night which saw him tally 4 points (2 goals and 2 assists).

Stone was named the 1st start of the game, and was joined by William Karlsson (1 goal and 1 assist), and Chandler Stephenson (1 goal and 1 assist). He wasn’t a star of the game, but Jonathan Marchessault tallied 3 assists during the win. Logan Thompson was back in net and stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced.

As for the rundown of the game, Vegas went down early in the 1st period as MacKenzie Weegar beat Logan Thompson to pickup his 7th goal of the season. Chandler Stephenson answered later on in the period to pick up his 5th goal of the season, and it was the 3rd consecutive game in which the Golden Knights forward found the back of the net.

After 20 minutes of play the game was tied 1-1, and the next 20 minutes were a bit weird and frustrating. Nazem Kadri scored to make it 2-1, and Ivan Barbashev responded just under 3 minutes later to bring Vegas level again.

Yegor Sharangovich scored toward the end of the period to make it 3-2, and despite Calgary only mustering 4 shots on goal during the 2nd frame, they scored twice and took a lead into the final period of play. Stone got the Golden Knights back into the game when Vegas headed to the power play, and he tallied his 9th goal of the season to knot things up at 3-3.

The score line stayed the same for the next 10 minutes, and William Karlsson capitalized on a turnover created by Stephenson to make it 4-3 with under 4 minutes of play left in regulation.

At this point in time it appeared the Golden Knights had pulled another rabbit out of their hats, but Sharangovich briefly sent the crowd into despair after redirecting a puck past Thompson to make it 4-4 with a minute left on the clock. Luckily the Golden Knights capitalized with their top unit in overtime, and Stone took a lead pass from Jack Eichel and scored on a partial breakaway to send the T-Mobile Arena faithful home happy.

It was a clunky and messy game at times in which the Golden Knights didn’t always look sharp, but they picked up two more important points, and sometimes that’s all that matters. With that said, here’s some stats of note from the team’s 5-4 victory.
