Golden Knights Trade Zack Hayes to Carolina Hurricanes for Future Considerations

The Golden Knights have traded Henderson Silver Knights defenseman Zack Hayes to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Golden Knights received future considerations in return, and essentially this move frees up a contract spot as the team previously was at the limit.

This year he’d appeared in 14 games in the AHL and had a lone assist. Last season he tallied 10 points (2 goals and 8 assists) in 54 games, and he also skated 3 games with the Golden Knights. Prior to joining Vegas, Hayes logged 272 games in the WHL with the Prince Albert Raiders where he scored 15 goals while adding 64 assists for 79 points.

The Golden Knights currently have $1.125 million in cap space per Cap Friendly, and an active roster of 23 skaters. If they wanted to make a deal down the line they now have some more flexibility to do so, and this move is a tidy piece of business to free up an organizational slot by sending out a player who doesn’t factor into the long-term future of the team.
