Golden Knights Clinch Playoff Spot, Lose to Sharks 4-3 in OT

The Vegas Golden Knights are heading back to the playoffs after missing them last season, but on Thursday they lost to a struggling San Jose Sharks in OT.

Vegas went down in the first period 2-0 when Mario Ferraro scored at 4:16 of the period, and Oskar Lindblom added another one for the Sharks at 14:31. The Golden Knights would respond to this goal, and 2:24 later Nicolas Hague picked up his 3rd goal of the season from Ben Hutton.

After 20 minutes of play the score remained 2-1, and the Golden Knights got to work quick in the 2nd.

Nicolas Roy drew a penalty early on to put Vegas on the power play, and just 1:08 into the period Ivan Barbashev scored to tie the game.

The rest of the period was a bit boring with 9 total shots going on goal (4 for Vegas and 5 for San Jose), but Tomas Hertl picked up a g0-ahead goal at 11:47 to put San Jose back in the driver’s seat.

The final period saw both teams pick up the pace, and for the first half things remained status quo. That changed once Michael Amadio found the back of the net for the 14th time this season to tie the game 3-3.

No one scored for the remainder of the period, and Vegas headed into OT looking to complete the comeback, but ultimately were unsuccessful.

The Sharks needed just 50 seconds of play in 3v3 to send the home crowd home happy, as Logan Couture scored on a breakaway after intercepting a cross-ice pass attempt by Alex Pietrangelo.
