The Golden Knights’ season ended less than 24 hours ago, but we may have already gotten a small glimpse at the team’s offseason plans.
Speaking to the media Friday, forward David Perron revealed that he and the team have been in contract talks throughout the season. And judging by his comments, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if the two parties eventually strike a deal.
David Perron: “We had a good conversation throughout the year. Didn’t get to a result, but I appreciate how much they want me to stay here, too. We’ll see how it goes. That’s the business side of things. … I want to be a part of this group again, for sure.” #VegasBorn

Perron is coming off the best season of his 11-year NHL career. The 30-year-old winger recorded a career high in assists (50) and finished behind only William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault for the team lead in points with 66 (also a career high) despite missing 12 regular season contests.
Perron also missed five of the Golden Knights’ 20 postseason games due to an illness, but still registered nine points through 15 appearances.
Retaining Perron shouldn’t be much of an issue from a financial standpoint. Despite making it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final, the Golden Knights are projected to have nearly $25 million in available cap space this offseason, per CapFriendly.
