Cody Glass named to Canada’s selection camp roster

The 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship is quickly approaching. Team Canada has officially revealed its selection camp roster (which you can view here) in preparation for the tournament, and to the surprise of almost no one, prized Vegas Golden Knights prospect Cody Glass has been invited to compete for a spot on Canada’s final roster.

Camp will begin on Dec. 11 and end on Dec. 14.

Glass is as close to a lock to make the final roster as anyone invited to Canada’s selection camp. The 19-year-old forward is currently averaging over two points per game for the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks, ranking fifth in the league with 51 points (including 11 goals) while leading the league with 40 assists through 24 games.

Vegas selected Glass with the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, making him the first player ever to be drafted by the Golden Knights. General manager George McPhee was ecstatic about the addition of Glass, whose play has been compared to that of Winnipeg Jets star Mark Scheifele.

“He’s a smart, smart player. An elite center with exceptional hockey sense. Getting to draft a top end center like Cody, it’s a great fit for us.”

Back in June, it was reported that the Ottawa Senators were interested in acquiring Glass in a potential trade involving Erik Karlsson, but the Golden Knights refused to include the Winnipeg native in the deal — a major vote of confidence in the young forward’s long-term potential.
