The Vegas Golden Knights found themselves in a 4-1 hole on Tuesday heading into the final period of play, and fell just short of completing the comeback in a 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators. The Golden Knights were out shot 40 to 26, went 1 for 4 on the power play, and just couldn’t rise to meet the Predators for most of the evening.

Luke Evangelista opened the scoring for Nashville 5:35 into the game, and it’s a goal that Adin Hill would want back given how it just squeaked through him as he tried to glove it.

Alex Pietrangelo tied things up later in the period, but the Golden Knights allowed a goal to Cody Glass in the final minute of play which enabled Nashville to take a lead into the first intermission.

Tommy Novak picked up his 12th goal of the year just near the halfway point of the second frame, and Craig Smith picked up his 7th nearly 8 minutes later to give the Predators a 4-1 lead which they took into the final 20 minutes.

The Golden Knights entered the final period with a power play that carried over from the second, and William Karlsson scored 47 seconds in to make it 4-2.

Unfortunately for Vegas, it took them 16 minutes and 14 seconds to score their next and final goal of the game, a strike from Michael Amadio at 17:01 of the period.

It remained 4-3 for 1:10, as the Predators capitalized on an empty net with 1:49 left in regulation.

The Golden Knights are off today, and return to action on Thursday for what should be a high-octane contest vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs.
