Golden Knights re-sign defenseman Jake Bischoff to 3-year deal

The Vegas Golden Knights have re-signed 24-year-old defenseman Jake Bischoff to a three-year contract, the club announced Tuesday.

Bischoff’s deal has an average annual value of $716,667.

Vegas acquired Bischoff in a deal with the New York Islanders corresponding with selecting Mikhail Grabovski in the 2017 expansion draft. The Golden Knights also acquired the 15th overall pick in that upcoming draft (Erik Brannstrom) and a 2019 second-round pick that was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in the Tomas Tatar deal.

Bischoff made the Golden Knights roster out of training camp last year over Brannstrom and fellow defenseman Nic Hague, but Bischoff didn’t play for Vegas. He scored 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in 60 games with AHL Chicago, and had five assists in 22 Calder Cup Playoff games with the Wolves en route to the final.

President of hockey operations George McPhee made it clear when the Golden Knights traded Colin Miller to Buffalo on June 28 that there would be competition for a spot on the blue line, and that could include Bischoff. While the primary candidates include Hague, Zach Whitecloud and Jimmy Schuldt (still unsigned), Bischoff could be given another shot to make the roster out of camp.

Bischoff was a seventh-round pick by the Islanders in the 2012 draft. He has yet to play a regular season game in the NHL.
