November Knights Notes of Note

  • In addition to writing here at Knights on Ice, I also provided coverage on the New York Rangers at Blueshirt Banter. A format that I’ve used there for some reaction stories, that I’ve unabashedly stolen from my managing editor Joe, is bullet point notes.
  • I figured that it would be a good idea, going forward, to recap the previous month of Golden Knights hockey with some notes of note. I am a sucker for alliteration, and I hope you enjoy this first installment, and enjoy the rest of your Friday.
  • Vegas went 9-4-1 in the month of November and captured 19 of a possible 28 points that were up for grabs. The month saw them win 5 in a row, lose two in a row, win, lose, win two in a row again, lose two in a row again, and end the month on a good note with a shoot out win over the Columbus Blue Jackets./

  • Additionally, Vegas scored 50 goals which was 6th-best in the league, and allowed 46 which puts them 19th overall. The team had been on some really solid footing in terms of goals surrendered, but a down month in goal and continued inability to execute on special teams didn’t help things.
  • The Golden Knights had an interesting month on special teams in which they went 8 of 38 (21%) on the power play, while going 26 of 36 on the penalty kill (72.2%).
  • Vegas scored first in 8 games, and their opponents drew first blood in the 6 remaining contests.
  • Logan Thompson drew the lion’s share of work appearing in 10 games, and he posted a record of 8-2-0 with a .909 save percentage, and a 2.88 goals against average. He was also named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for November./

  • In the remaining games Adin Hill went 1-2-1 with a .864 save percentage and a 3.80 goals against average, a stark decline from his October results.
  • Alex Pietrangelo led the team in scoring with a line of 2-8-10 in 13 games, while William Carrier was the top goal scorer with 7 goals! in 14 games. This is a big deal for Carrier who scored 9 goals all of last season, and this season is up to 8 in 24 games played./

  • Jack Eichel also had a strong month and led skaters with an xGF% of 58.90 in 201:58 played at 5v5 per Natural Stat Trick. He was third in total scoring with 9 points in 14 games played.
  • He’s enjoying a tremendous start to the season, and could find himself in the Hart Trophy conversation if he keeps things up./

  • Overall, things went really good for the Golden Knights in November, and they were able to weather a bit of a bumpy patch after their win streak ended. They will look to continue that success in the month of December, and continue their journey back to the playoffs./
