Golden Knights sign forward Brendan Brisson to entry-level contract

The Vegas Golden Knights announced Saturday that the club has signed forward Brendan Brisson to a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal, which carries an AAV of $925,000, will kick in at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Brisson was Vegas’ first-round selection (No. 29) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and is one of the top prospects in the organization.

He has three goals and eight points in six games with the Henderson Silver Knights since signing a tryout with the AHL club earlier this month.

Brisson is coming off a stellar campaign with the University of Michigan in which he recorded 21 goals and 42 points in 38 games as a sophomore, leading the Wolverines to the Frozen Four. He elected to forego his final two seasons of NCAA eligibility after a disappointing overtime loss in the semifinal.

Brisson finished his NCAA career with 31 goals and 63 points in 62 games spanning two seasons.

Prior to his time in Ann Arbor, Brisson recorded 59 points in 45 games with the Chicago Steel, good for second overall in the USHL.

He recently scored two goals in four games with Team USA in the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The 20-year-old is dangerous on the power play and is highly capable of filling the net, which he has done at every level. He’s not afraid to go to the dirty areas, and his hockey sense allows him to find soft spots in defensive coverage to set up scoring opportunities.

Brisson is considered a “problem-solving” forward on the ice and has an elite shot, and he specializes in scoring one-timers on his off wing.

That being said, he is not a one-dimensional player by any means.

Brisson is the son of prominent NHL agent Pat Brisson, who represents many of the top players in the NHL. His client list includes Golden Knights forwards Jonathan Marchessault and Nicolas Roy.

The signing comes days after the Golden Knights inked Ivan Morozov to a two-year, entry-level contract. Morozov was selected in the second round (No. 61) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Golden Knights Top 25 Under 25: Ivan Morozov

Morozov scored five goals and 11 points in 22 games with SKA St. Petersburg and HK Sochi of the KHL. He finished the 2020-21 season with 13 goals and 31 points in 55 games with SKA St. Petersburg.

Morozov will join the Silver Knights for the duration of the 2021-22 campaign.

Both players have an opportunity to make the Golden Knights out of training camp.
